L.E.G.O. was founded in 1900 as a small artisan workshop on the initiative of Pietro Olivotto. Since then, five generations of entrepreneurs have succeeded each other by renewing and adapting the company to a rapidly evolving market.
Today L.E.G.O. is one of the leading European producers of quality books. The operating divisions can offer the entire production cycle in-house providing the market with reliability and speed of production.

OUR HISTORY
More than one hundred years of experience is the guarantee we give
The artisan roots
In 1900, bookbinder Pietro Olivotto and his wife Vittoria opened a small artisan workshop in Vicenza. It was the foundation stone of the family business.
As early as the 1920s, with the entry of their son Giovanni and his wife Maria, the transformation began: production was gradually mechanised, and by the late 1930s, L.E.G.O. had evolved into an industrial reality with around 150 employees.

Industrial expansion
Post-war reconstruction, led by Piero Olivotto, son of Giovanni, laid the foundations for unprecedented growth.
Between 1956 and 1968, to meet the demands of a rapidly expanding market symbolised by the boom of encyclopaedias in Italian homes, L.E.G.O. built and repeatedly expanded its large new plant in Vicenza.

Internationalisation and innovation
The entry of Giulio Olivotto into the company marked a global turning point.
In 1975, the first commercial office opened in England, kickstarting an expansion into foreign markets that would exceed 80% of turnover in the 1980s.
The company surpassed 1,000 employees, establishing itself among the European leaders in production capacity.
On the technological front, Giulio acquired blueprints from the US to create the «L.E.G.O. 300», the fastest production line for thin books of its time. It was during these years that L.E.G.O. added printing services to its historical bookbinding core.

Vertical integration
The two decades leading up to 2010 were characterised by the completion of the production cycle.
«Legoprint» was born: the Lavis hub, equipped with cutting-edge CTP devices and an automated warehouse with a storage capacity of 14,000 tonnes of paper.
The introduction of the first Timson web press revolutionised the production of single-colour, high-page-count books.
With the entry of Rosa in 1997, the fourth generation of the Olivotto family, the company expanded into new markets: L.E.G.O. integrated the production of calendars, postcards, and tourist guides, and acquired specific expertise in fine art book printing.

Technological excellence
Investments in state-of-the-art machinery accelerated sharply to guarantee unbeatable quality and turnaround times.
Three 4-colour Timson web presses were installed at the Lavis plant (2010, 2013, 2019).
At the Vicenza plant, a Komori Lithrone G-840P H-UV for maximum brightness and two large-format (120×160 cm) Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 162 presses came into operation.

Investing in the Future
Faithful to its tradition, L.E.G.O. continues to evolve by investing in people and innovation.
The introduction of corporate empowerment programmes aims to value the team and maintain a service of excellence: a commitment recognised by the market with the victory, in 2022, of the prestigious «Graphic Industry of the Year» Italian award.
Bolstered by this achievement, L.E.G.O. confirms its firm commitment to anticipating the needs of the publishing market. In 2025, the company added a Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 X in Vicenza and a Komori Lithrone Advance GL640 2HC in Lavis to its machinery.
